Hedge Effective Advisory.
Built by Specialists, for Specialists.
We are Australasia’s only accounting firm dedicated exclusively to hedge accounting. Founded over 8 years’ ago by Kevin Mitchell, we exist because CFOs and finance teams deserve specialist hedge accounting support, not generic advice.
Our Story
Hedge Effective Advisory was founded on a simple observation: hedge accounting is too complex to be an afterthought, and too expensive to get wrong.
Where the Big Four and generalist consultancies treat hedge accounting as a niche add-on, we’ve built an entire business model around it. Because we know its value.
Today, our team support more than 75 entities across APAC. From ASX-listed software companies to gold producers, property developers, and non-profit organisations, we have managed over $10 billion in hedge notional value and maintained a 100% clean audit record.
Our clients don't come to us because they believe hedge accounting is easy. They come to us because we make it look that way.
Meet the team
The Hedge Effective Advisory team combines deep technical expertise in IFRS 9, AASB 9, and IAS 39 and has practical experience across treasury, audit, and financial reporting. This is not a combination of skills and experience that you can find just anywhere.
Kevin Mitchell
CEO & Founder
Kevin founded Hedge Effective Advisory after recognising that CFOs and finance teams across APAC struggled to maximise profit and loss on hedging and could not find specialist hedge accounting support.
With extensive experience in hedge accounting policy, documentation, and audit readiness, Kevin leads the firm's advisory practice and is the author of Hedge Accounting Unlocked.

Why choose Hedge Effective Advisory?
-
Most in-house finance teams lack the specialist expertise, bandwidth, and the right tools to manage hedge accounting to audit standard.
It is a heavily regulated area of accounting requiring proper documentation, effectiveness testing, and disclosure.
-
While the Big Four treat Hedge Accounting as a niche service line, it is our entire business.
That means deeper expertise, faster turnaround, and a methodology (the HEDGEHOG Method) that we built specifically for hedge accounting programs.
-
Our team includes qualified CPAs, CAs, and treasury specialists with extensive experience in hedge accounting policy, documentation, effectiveness testing, and audit support across ASX-listed and multinational organisations.
We are a team of implementation experts, not just theoretical subject matter experts.
-
Most definitely yes. We design every hedge accounting program to pass audit with the Big Four and any other mid-tier firms. Our documentation and reporting frameworks are built to auditor standards from day one.
-
We are proudly able to say that we have a 100% clean audit record.
Every hedge accounting program we have designed, implemented, or managed has passed audit without qualification or restatement.
01
Understand
We begin by understanding your risk exposures, existing derivatives, financial reporting requirements, and audit history. We will also undertake a gap analysis against IFRS 9 / AASB 9 requirements and do a review of your current hedge documentation.
Everything is then reported to you.
We have developed and always That follow a proven three-step process that takes clients from initial assessment to fully compliant, audit-ready hedge accounting.
Our Approach
02
Design & Implement
We design a hedge accounting framework tailored to your organisation; including policy documentation, effectiveness testing methodology, valuation procedures, and GL journal templates.
We will then implement the framework and train your team.
03
Ongoing Execution
For clients on our Managed Services plan, we handle monthly MTM valuations, effectiveness testing, GL journals, CVA/DVA calculations, and audit support so we can deliver you board-ready reports every period.
Our Values
-
We believe hedge accounting expertise should be deep, not broad. Every member of our team is trained in the nuances of IFRS 9, AASB 9, and IAS 39.
We proudly invest in our team to ensure we are continuously staying ahead of regulatory change.
-
Our clients trust us with their audit outcomes.
We honour that trust with rigorous documentation, transparent reporting, and to-date, a 100% clean audit record.
-
We know your finance team is busy. For them, making time for Hedge Accounting is a large investment. But with our processes, templates, and software we will minimise your team's workload while maximising audit confidence.
